Changes to tariffs on US imports

Tariffs have been raised significantly on a large amount of goods being imported into the UK from the USA. These raises of 25% on average are causing Duty invoices to soar for importers. The World Trade Organisation have released a document listing the tariffs affected which can be accessed below:

BIFA (British International Freight Association) have advised that the new tariff rates apply only to goods originating in the USA and only those leaving the USA on or after 22 June.

Moving forward however, you will need a Certificate of Origin from your supplier to show which goods were not made in the USA (for example, those made in China and then imported to the USA prior to you purchasing them) to avoid the retaliatory tariffs when goods arrive in the UK.

A second round of tariffs are earmarked for rises shortly. We will update as we receive more information.
