Volume Weight Conversion
Each mode of transport uses a separate volume weight conversion. This is to even out the shipments that actually weigh very little but take up a lot of space.
Volume weight conversions for each mode of transport are usually as follows:
Airfreight 1 kilo = 6000 cubic cm
Courier 1 kilo = 5000 cubic cm
Sea Freight 1000 kilos = 1 cubic metre (CBM)
Road Freight 1000 kilos = 3 CBM
The following example shows the difference between each mode of transport based on the same example shipment:
Shipment = 1000 kilos and 4.0 CBM
Airfreight 4.0 CBM x 166 = 664 volume kilos
Sea Freight 4.0 CBM x 1000 = 4000 volume kilos
Road Freight 4.0 CBM x 333 = 1332 volume kilos
So according to the above calculations, the chargeable weight of each shipment is:
Airfreight = 1000 kilos
Sea Freight = 4000 kilos
Road Freight = 1332 kilos
